As I try to get my head around what exactly this whole Custard Factory thing is I’m starting to realise that it’s just a space, loosely curated by the sorts of tenants encouraged, but essentially a bunch of places where stuff can happen.
A case in point is the discovery that Puglist Promotions are putting on a boxing card in the Rojac Building (just behind the arches) on November 18th. And, judging by the comments here from Tom Podmore, it looks to be a regular thing.
Jon Pegg, former pro and matchmaker for Ringside, and John Costello, father of Tommy and head-honcho at Chelmsley Wood ABC, want to put open shows for the best of Richie Woodhall’s lot.
Ringside are only putting on infrequent dinner shows now and young, exciting talent like Tommy Owens, Tommy Costello and Eddie McIntosh want to fight often on open shows – they can all shift tickets. I would count like to count D in that bracket, but he isn’t a young man - just turned 30.
It will, providing it’s a success (which it should be), be the first of many.
Boxers scheduled to fight are Eddie McIntosh, Mark Phillips, D (Delroy) Mitchell, Thomas Costello and Tom Owens.
I’m really looking forward to this. It appears to be a matter of either 11 or 13 amateur fights followed by a bit of a break before four pro fights (with the aforementioned D. Mitchell, Tommy Costello etc).
And once it’s all done, you can go and see this. Combine that with the Sunday Flea and I’d call that it a whole day’s worth of fun at The Custard Factory.
good to see boxing that the working class can aford and not just dinner shows i know eddie and tom owen very well .so ther will be quite a few of us going to suport them . both very talented boxers
I agree with the above comment - dinner shows are ridiculous.
I realise this is late notice, but for the benefit of anyone hoping to pay on the door - it’s already completely sold out.
As such I won’t be going. Bah.
