Whatsthebigmistry’s DoorWonderland is a piece of experimental interactive theatre that was part of the Fierce Festival earlier in the year, transforming the ground floor and basement of Curzon Street Station into a maze through which the audiences was lead by Lewis Carol-like characters. And that’s only scratching the surface. Next week it comes to the Custard Factory.

Taking audiences on a journey of intense contradictions, the piece offers audiences an intimate experience of all that is fabulously dark and destructive. Mistry invites participants to enter the game like world of DoorWonderland and play with the concept that dreams are the choices we don’t make. The life you don’t have. In this highly personalised work each participant is asked to reconsider and reconstruct their own interpretations of reality – suspending beliefs and accompanying Mistry into a curious world of the unknown.

There’s video from the Fierce performance here which’ll give you a taste. Personally I’m glad I went in blind last time so I wouldn’t recommend watching that.

Established in 2002 whatsthebigmistry is artist Priya Mistry, working in live art, performance, film, photography, web & fine art forms. This multidisciplinary approach explores co-collaborations & exchanges in the working process. Mistry carefully considers audience role in cultivating experience, plays with the mode of story-telling, generating interventions and private engagements. Projects are located in a variety of settings, reaching diverse audiences from formal art spaces & galleries to public space including streets, markets, road side cabins, magazines and virtual/ web space.

The performance take place on 28th and 29th November at 6:15pm and 8:30pm. Tickets are £4.50 / £4 concessions available from the Birmingham REP box office (0121 236 4455)
