The Birmingham Post and Mail published a supplement today celebrating 100 Great Things About The West Midlands and put the Custard Factory at number 37:

100%20great%20things

The example they chose to represent the complex is Capsule’s Supersonic Festival which they describe thus:

Most established of these is Capsule, two switched on women, who constantly host nights of the world’s most cutting edge music and provide a platform for local bands. Capsule’s Supersonic Festival, held every July at the Custard Factory is a world-class event and perfectly sums up the whole Custard Factory Vibe.

The whole supplement is available to read online.

I’m confused. What does ‘impossible to underestimate the ofsignificance’ mean? In normal parlance it should mean that it cannot be trivialised too much, cannot be given too little significance. I’m heading over to look at the supplement and see who wrote it, and whether that gives any clues as to this peculiar phrase.

You’re confusing hyperbole with English as it is spoken. :)

(Either that or the writer has an axe to grind…)

Incroyable. Or incomprehensible. Language Log has confirmed what you say by comparing Google Scholar searches on the ‘correct’ and ‘incorrect’ phrasing. The incorrect use is nearly twice as prevalent. My incomprehension cannot be understated.
