Art
Art plays an important role at the Custard Factory. Many of the tenants are artists or companies that work in the arts from promotion to publishing to business support.
As the Custard Factory site expands along Heath Mill Lane and Fazeley Street we are seeing a number of dedicated Art spaces emerging such as Eastside Projects which opens in September 2008 and joins the more established Vivid and the Ikon Gallery’s annual summer residency. More are on the way and we estimate there will be 9 galleries and art spaces on site soon giving this corner of Birmingham a greater density of art-friendly environments than anywhere in the UK outside of London.
The Custard Factory itself is a gallery of sorts with each building having a monumental piece of public art. The Green Man on Gibb Street is the most obvious - a living tree statue watching over passers by - while the Dragon guards the lake in Scott House. The sculpture for Devonshire House, however, will surpass all with it’s audacity. You’ll have to wait until 2009 to see it though.
