Photographers! Gather ye within the Vaad Gallery this April, for an exhibition of some of the finest happy-snappy images this side of Jessop’s. Big white space, half your body-weight in stark and striking photos - one not to be missed.
The cream of Sandwell College’s photographic crop bring their exhibition to the Vaad in June, with a week’s worth of thought-provoking, soul-stirring imagery designed to set even the least-inclined amongst you to channel your inner Lord Lichfield (bouffant optional).
Local photographers are invited to exhibit and swap their work for free here on Saturday 21st March. Birmingham Photospace, a voluntary group dedicated to finding a permanent space for photography in the city, is hosting ‘Flash Swap’ for photographers of all levels to showcase their work for free.
The event will allow people to be part of a ‘swap session’, where they can take home their favourite image from the exhibition, providing that they have left one of their own prints in exchange. This picture exchange will give people the chance to meet fellow photographers over a drink and to display their artwork, but is also intended to raise awareness of the organisers’ long-term goal: to establish a permanent photography gallery in Birmingham.
Birmingham Photospace is a dedicated, not-for-profit space for photographers, and originated from the global photo sharing website Flickr, where over 1,200 members have registered an interest in the city’s photography.
To express an interest in exhibiting or attending, email patrick@birminghamphotospace.co.uk or visit the group’s blog.

Custard Factory tenant Ian Cook recently went for a miniaturized spin on BBC warhorse “Blue Peter”. Ian’s specialist skills involve producing top-notch works of art using only remote-controlled racing cars (but of course!). Here’s a shot of the finished product within the Vaad Gallery, prior to being displayed at BBC Centre in London Town.
Andrew Christopher has all the answers to said zoologically-themed headline. Intrigued? Then pop along to the Vaad Gallery next Friday at 6.00pm - admission free.
