First off, Tom from Substrakt’s My Day (Friday), compressing his day into a 90 second movie:
Second off, and with apologies for self promotion, Dunkirk, a film I was involved in making for Film Dash this weekend shot around Digbeth and the Custard Factory, which is my excuse for posting it here.
Third off, from the archives on Vimeo, In Bed With, a video installation by Devon Miles from 2004:
I asked random people around the custard factory to lay down on a bed and explain with whom they would like to be in bed with and why.
I filmed them from above, the video then was projected onto several beds inside the gallery space, using beamers, which are pointed from the ceiling down to the beds. the audio was played through small speakers hidden in the pillows. the visitors were invited to lay down besides the virtual bedmates and listen to them.

Found on YouTube, a nice film from Platform 01 that took place in the Custard Factory Gallery in March:
PLATFORM 01 was a multi-media collection of work by predominantly local artists, and featured contributions from painters, photographers, sculptors, printmakers and digital media artists, some of whom have been featured in Elle Deco, presented work internationally, worked with Supergrass and The Young Knives, exhibited at the Tate, and won numerous awards. The diversity of techniques alongside the potential audience resulted in a wide spectrum of artists, art, and collectors representative of Birminghams rapidly expanding art scene.
Shows off the space rather nicely too. If you want to book it call Jonathan on 0121 244 7775. (Shameless plug over…)

Footage of Embrace performing on the Custard Factory lake stage in 2004 surfaced on YouTube the other week. It’s pretty shaky but what the hell.

Most of the videos I find on YouTube tagged Custard Factory consist of incoherent footage from camera phones waved around at club nights, the novelty of which wears thin after a while, but occasionally a gem pops up. Here’s a video promo for the Louis Den Beat Cypher night at Rooty’s on October 9th. It’s utterly fantastic.
And here’s the more traditional flyer:
