The Mockingbird Cinema & Kitchen and The Custard Factory are pleased to announce a special day of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story screenings on the 25th of February.
The entire day – raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and New Cross Hospital’s Cancer Unit – will be filled with the Force, with special appearances from Stormtroopers and all your favourite Star Wars characters, as well as Blue Milk, Wookie Cookies, John Williams music in our bar, a charity raffle with Star Wars prizes and much more to be announced.
The reason the event has arisen is because one of the Mockingbird Cinema’s co-owners, James Anderson Brown, has over the last year felt the real impact of cancer when his wife was diagnosed with the illness followed by months of gruelling chemotherapy and Radiotherapy which luckily, due to the care she received is now a cancer survivor.
James Anderson Brown said: “When my Wife became seriously ill a year ago with cancer, every day the term “Hope” kept us going which seems to be at the core of the Star Wars and resonates with hardcore fans like myself.
“She is now in remission and I could not think of a better way by a fundraising event around Star Wars to try thank all the amazing staff, Nurses, Consultants, just everyone who were so amazing in my wife’s personal care in the NHS service to raise funds for the New Cross Wolverhampton Cancer Unit, as well as the wider cause in McMillian Support.
“The support so far has been overwhelming, the UK Garrison of the 501st Legion have amazingly agreed to attend the event, The Custard Factory have also been sensational in making this happen, with Disney so graciously allowing us to screen the film for Charity and making this event happen for a great cause. The day is family friendly so I really hope to see fans old and new come along and have a great time.”
Rogue One is a key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves. A group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction.
Showings are on Saturday 25 February at 2pm, 5pm and 8pm.
