Have you seen the cool Channel 4 sculpture on display in our reception?
This impressive piece of visual art is by the Digbeth-based Iron Oxide, the acclaimed designers and bespoke lighting manufacturers.
The design is filled with clever nods to Birmingham’s proud past as the birthplace of the industrial revolution – check out the rugged copper and steel.
The concrete is a fab tip of the hat to the post-World War II years that spawned iconic landmarks such as the old Bullring, the Brutalist-inspired Birmingham Central Library, and Spaghetti Junction.
Of course, over the past couple of decades, Brum has reinvented itself as a leading tech and digital hub in the UK, transforming stunning industrial Victorian buildings into workspaces for the 21st century; represented in the sculpture by the futuristic (and beautifully understated) lighting.
Finally, High Speed 2 (HS2), the high-speed railway on Digbeth’s doorstep that will make trips from Birmingham to London a mere 49 minutes, is set to play a key role in the future growth of our flourishing city. The wooden railway sleeper at the base of the artwork is a tactile representation of the exciting future ahead for Birmingham.
