The new British & Irish Modern Music (BIMM) Institute is due to open its doors here in Digbeth this autumn – and they’ve announced its College Principal.
Antony Greaves, who pioneered the UK’s first Electronic Music Production Degree, has an extensive background in music and education, having worked in the industry since 1999. Last year he became a development consultant and author of the world’s first music production graded syllabus, which is now delivered in 42 countries around the world.
Antony will be the first ever Principal of BIMM Birmingham, which will be the 7th college in the expanding BIMM group, and based in Birmingham’s creative hub of Digbeth. He joins BIMM’s huge network of industry professionals and successful students, to become part of its’ growth in the Midlands. Commenting on his new appointment, Antony said:
“BIMM is a college where students can hone their craft and make connections. The first year of BIMM Birmingham will be an exciting time to be a student, and they will be the special first cohort who will shape the experience for future years, and have a significant impact on the local music scene.”
“On a personal level, I find it incredibly rewarding to help people do what they love, so this is the best job in the world for me.”
Antony specifically added why our area of Birmingham is ideal for the new college:
“Digbeth is the perfect location for BIMM, not only is it a short walk from the centre of the city, but it’s got something about it which inspires the arts. So many creative people and businesses are moving into the area surrounding the Custard Factory, and everyone involved in the BIMM Birmingham project feels that something very special is about to happen there. We all want to be a part of it.”
Dara Kilkenny Executive Principal for BIMM Birmingham (Manchester and Dublin) added “Antony is going to be a great asset to the new BIMM Birmingham. His experience in both education and the music industry is a perfect combination, and he will be a great mentor to all our students. I am really delighted to welcome him to the team.”
The next BIMM Birmingham Open Day is at The Custard Factory on Saturday 20 May, where anyone interested in applying can find out all about life at BIMM and the courses on offer. You can find further details HERE
