Silicon Canal Summer BBQ – the perfect way to end #DigitalDigbeth Day!

Everybody in Birmingham’s tech and art communities are buzzing with excitement as we draw ever-closer to the BBC’s Digital Cities Week in Birmingham. The hugely-anticipated #DigitalDigbeth Day is just one of the many events taking place across the city over the five days.

Another of those we are really excited about is the Silicon Canal Summer BBQ. This opportunity to meet and network with some of the leading lights of the city’s creative sectors takes place on the evening of #DigitalDigbeth Day, on Thurs 15th June here at the Custard Factory from 6pm.

Silicon Canal’s mission statement is to discover and grow Birmingham’s flourishing tech eco-system, so their informal BBQ is the ideal opportunity to meet the companies, the investors and the people behind the city’s great tech start-ups, scale-ups and large companies.

With its own prominent role in the city’s digital scene, the Custard Factory will be a fantastic backdrop to meet some of the movers and shakers in the tech community in a friendly and relaxed environment. There will be plenty of opportunities to find out about the amazing work of creative and tech companies in and around Brum.

Another benefit of coming along to the BBQ is that you will be able to meet and greet the Silicon Canal Working Group Leaders and find out more about their plans are for this year. The Working Group Leaders are a dedicated team of volunteers who look out for the most innovative projects and offer support in an effort to add to the tech eco-system they are trying to cultivate.

There will also be a chance to meet the pitchers and investors who will have taken part earlier in the day in Silicon Canal’s inaugural ‘Sink or Swim’ start-up pitch on a canal boat!

The ‘Sink or Swim’ event provides the opportunity for five investment ready start-ups to pitch to a small group of investors on a 30 min canal boat journey from the ICC to the Mailbox and back. The good news is the start-ups have a captive audience for 15 mins (unless the investors want to swim to escape their pitch!) – they have a three-minute pitch followed by 10 minutes of questions. If you are part of a tech start-up and interested in pitching, details can be found here.
